Evaluating Our Motives

In Luke 12, Jesus reminds us, "Life is more than food and the body more than clothing." Birds have all they need and the flowers are so beautiful, but neither does anything to make it so.

We all so easily lose sight of our loving Lord. We feel blessed when we have good clothes, a nice house, and a little extra stored away in savings. Those things are fine, but Jesus tells us in these words to store up our treasures above instead of here on earth.

"Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail...For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Our Dong brothers and sisters struggle with this just like we do.

We struggle from the side of having so many material possessions, we tend to put our faith in our money instead of the Lord. The Dong people, though, struggle with this from the side of want; they have little, want more, and do not know how to store up treasure which cannot decay.

We all need reminded every once in a while to evaluate how we live and the motives in our hearts. There is nothing wrong with having some possessions, but the more we have, the easier it is to forget our need for the Lord and to forget to invest in things eternal.

As the Dong Christians hear these words of Christ, ask the Spirit to work in them, to convict them of greedy motives, and lead them to a life of sacrifice to the Lord. Ask also that the Spirit would help them grow in grace and knowledge to know how to store up their treasures in heaven.
